Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, is an extraordinarily unique travel destination as our oceanside paradise is equally revered for its pristine beaches, world-renowned golf courses, and eye-popping attractions. There’s genuinely something for everyone here along the Grand Strand, including a diverse array of Myrtle Beach museums. Whether you’re a history buff, well-traveled aesthete, or self-proclaimed petrolhead, the whole family is in for one whirlwind of a good time here at Sand Dunes Resort. Don’t forget that all guests receive free entry to our splash-tastic water park as well as convenient access to our exclusive beach.
A Handy Guide to the Best Myrtle Beach Museums
A long-awaited trip to sunny Myrtle Beach isn’t complete without a stop at one of the region’s most popular museums. While there isn’t an overabundant amount of Myrtle Beach museums within 10 miles of Sand Dunes Resort, we couldn’t dream up a more diverse group of attractions than these four selections. Without further ado, let’s start our guide with a stop at Broadway at the Beach.
1. Hollywood Wax Museum
After a $250 million installation, Broadway at the Beach rapidly evolved into the state’s premier entertainment hub. There’s something for every type of traveler here in the heart of Myrtle Beach: shops, eateries, boat rides, and, heck, even minor league baseball. But the Hollywood Wax Museum is a head-turning attraction that the whole family can relish. Pose alongside some of your favorite celebrities, athletes, and historical figures. The figures are, of course, made up entirely of wax (much like the classic 1953 film, House of Wax).
2. EdVenture Children’s Museum
Treat your kids to an educational, fun-filled afternoon at EdVenture Children’s Museum, the only children’s museum in Myrtle Beach. This 3,000-square-foot space rests inside The Market Common, a posh shopping complex on the south side of town. Visitors can meander alongside the countless hands-on exhibits to learn about humankind’s advancements in science, technology, engineering, and math. Your little ones can govern the “mission control,” attempt a flight simulator, and hop aboard an interactive spaceship.
3. Burroughs-Chapin Art Museum
The Franklin G. Burroughs-Simeon B. Chapin Art Museum has many names, including the “Myrtle Beach Art Museum.” For those with a keen eye for fine art, a stop at the Burroughs-Chapin Art Museum is an absolute must. This 11-gallery art hall is, as you might expect, a visual treat. Works from Norman Rockwell, Frank Lloyd Wright, Jonathan Green, Dixie Dugan, and countless other master artists have hung inside this beautiful respite. While many label the art museum as a splendid “rainy day activity,” we think it’s well worth a visit even amid summer’s golden haze. Unlike most Myrtle Beach museums, Burroughs-Chapin is entirely free of charge!
4. Wheels of Yesteryear
Wheels of Yesteryear narrowly “defeated” the Myrtle Beach Pinball Museum to garner the last spot on this list. One of the most enticing events of the year here in our beachside paradise is Mustang Week, which serves as an eye-catching trip down memory lane for thousands of spectators. Wheels of Yesterday has a jam-packed warehouse filled with glossy, breathtaking cars that have withstood the test of time, and it’s open to the public seven days a week! These hot rides have never looked more inviting to car geeks and gear heads. Stop in and say “hello” to their 1969 Mercury Cyclone, 1955 Dodge Stepside Pickup, and 1963 Corvette Stingray. As the only car museum in Myrtle Beach, Wheels of Yesteryear sees a ton of foot traffic during the cooler months.
Myrtle Beach Oceanfront Resorts
After visiting a couple of these marvelous Myrtle Beach museums, retreat to Sand Dunes Resort for a beach stroll, poolside cocktail, and a cheeselicious pizza at Oceanside 74 Restaurant. And don’t forget to browse through our modern, ocean-view villas before giving us a call at 866-845-1011. We cannot wait to see all of your smiling faces this winter here on the peaceful Grand Strand!
[/fusion_text][/fusion_builder_column][/fusion_builder_row][/fusion_builder_container]
There’s never an offseason for golf here in sunny Myrtle Beach, widely known as the “Golf Capital of the World.” While much of the country is saying “goodbye” to autumn, we’re still enjoying late-summer temperatures here along South Carolina’s coast. And one of the most popular mid-fall activities in our seaside haven is, of course, 18 holes of championship golf. Sand Dunes Resort not only has a free water park, oceanfront dining, and exclusive beach access, but guests can take full advantage of our affordable Myrtle Beach golf packages. All customized golf packages include (at a minimum) three nights of oceanfront lodging and three rounds at the top-reviewed Myrtle Beach golf courses.
The Top Myrtle Beach Golf Courses
If you’ve ever taken a peek at a Myrtle Beach golf course map, you already know that there are nearly 100 golf clubs along the Grand Strand. To ensure that all upcoming Myrtle Beach golf trips are nothing short of flawless, we’ve pieced together ten of our favorite local courses. All of these mainstays can be included in a Sand Dunes Resort golf package. For your reading enjoyment, we’ve broken down these can’t-miss Myrtle Beach golf courses into ten unique categories.
- The Best Country Club: Pine Lakes Country Club — Pine Lakes, which saw its first swing in 1927, was the very first golf course in Myrtle Beach. The gorgeous clubhouse, natural dunes, and rolling fairways have been wowing golfers for nearly a century.
- The Best Hidden Gem: Litchfield Country Club — Litchfield’s swift pace of play and affordable prices lure golfers from across the region. This well-groomed Pawleys Island classic should be on this year’s autumn wishlist.
- The Best of Murrells Inlet: TPC of Myrtle Beach — You won’t find many Myrtle Beach golf deals that include a round at the prestigious TPC. But, luckily for you, Sand Dunes Resort’s Prime Times Rewards Package is here to save the day.
- The Best of North Carolina: Farmstead Golf Links — Where else can you play a par six that starts in one state and ends in the other? Farmstead has an idyllic countryside design that many others simply cannot match.
- The Best of North Myrtle Beach: Beachwood Golf Club — Beachwood is often overshadowed by the giants, such as TPC and King’s North, but you’ll discover the perfect combination of city and country at this North Myrtle Beach gem.
The Best Plantation: Willbrook Plantation — This 221-year-old plantation is brimming with history, natural beauty, and, of course, gorgeous tee shots. Today, Willbrook is known as one of the best golf courses in Myrtle Beach thanks to its immaculate greens, old-world charm, and Lowcountry marshes.- The Best Water Hazards: River Club — Many Myrtle Beach golf courses feature snaking waterways, which often line narrow fairways. But none of them can match the fun yet challenging water hazards at the aptly-named River Club.
- The Most Beautiful: Wild Wing Plantation — Wild Wing is known to many as the Grand Strand’s “most creative design.” The Larry Nelson and Jeff Brauer design genuinely has the power to take golfers’ breath away, especially the towering trees and rolling terrain.
- The Most Peaceful: Blackmoor Golf Club — This jaw-dropping Gary Player-designed masterpiece in Murrells Inlet is easy on the eyes, to say the least. There’s an inflated level of serenity that can be obtained at Blackmoor, which always keeps us coming back for more.
- The Very Best of Myrtle Beach: King’s North at Myrtle Beach National — This Arnold Palmer-designed knockout is among the best courses in the world. Golfers mainly fall in love with Myrtle Beach National’s island fairways, dramatic tee shots, and challenging par threes.

While thrill-seekers typically visit Myrtle Beach to surf, parasail, and jet ski, there’s a vast, mysterious underwater world worth exploring during your next coastal escape. Scuba diving in Myrtle Beach is subtly growing among couples, groups, and, yes, even families. There are several scuba diving schools and rental shops within minutes of Sand Dunes Resort for those who need instruction, certification, or gear.
Scuba Diving in Myrtle Beach: What to Expect
What you might not know about the Myrtle Beach area is that there are several underwater treasures near our pristine beaches, including Civil War wrecks, sunken World War II tugboats, and rapidly-growing artificial reefs. Half-day trips start at just $79 per person for most Myrtle Beach diving charters. You won’t find prices this low anywhere else along the East Coast!
Top Myrtle Beach Scuba Charters
Scuba diving in Myrtle Beach has never been this accessible as popular demand has helped more than triple availability as well as drop costs. You won’t have to search for “deep-sea diving near me” during your well-deserved coastal escape because we’ve compiled the area’s best scuba outfitters.
Coastal Scuba – North Myrtle Beach
If you’re planning on scuba diving in Myrtle Beach, we highly recommend speaking with a representative from Coastal Scuba. This five-star organization offers practical classes, incredible deep-sea charters, and inexpensive scuba rentals. Charters range from $79 to $200 depending on the length and depth of the voyage. Some of the most popular expeditions include a 200-foot Civil War blockade-runner, a barracuda-overrun artificial reef, and a 130-foot deep-sea dive. Browse through their extensive charter list before giving them a ring at 843-361-3323.
Scuba Express – Murrells Inlet
Express Watersports is known for their sunset cruises, parasailing expeditions, and jet ski rentals, but they also offer some of the best scuba diving in Myrtle Beach. Yes, they have on-site dive instruction and scuba gear rentals, but travelers typically seek out their “Live Bottom Ledges” artificial reef where visibility ranges from 60 to 100 feet. Their scuba season runs from early March through mid-to-late October, and prices range from $80 to $200. Scuba Express visits 21 dive sites, including ten locales geared explicitly toward novices.
It’s worth noting that Nu Horizons Dive and Travel has the area’s premier scuba instruction. While Nu Horizons doesn’t provide scuba diving in Myrtle Beach, they do help locals book trips to faraway destinations.
Myrtle Beach Hotels in Water Parks
Sand Dunes Resort is the perfect oceanfront destination for those who’re planning on scuba diving in South Carolina as we’re within minutes of Coastal Scuba and Scuba Express. We’re also one of the only water park resorts in the state—guests can splash, slide, and laze for free at our on-site water park. And don’t forget that Myrtle Beach is home to a wide variety of free activities, rousing attractions, and easy day trips. To learn more about our coastal escape, please give us a call today at 866-845-1011.

While a vacation (regardless of the locale) is the perfect time to splurge on fine dining, world-class golf, hair-raising live performances, and a plethora of souvenirs, it’s never a bad idea to compile a handy list of free activities. Luckily for you and your family, Myrtle Beach has the perfect combination of free fun and a wide variety of inexpensive attractions that cost money but don’t break the bank. To ensure that your family has the time of their lives without worrying about your checkbook, we’ve compiled four of our favorite free things to do in Myrtle Beach. All of these top-ranked Myrtle Beach attractions are within minutes (or seconds) of Sand Dunes Resort.
The 4 Best Free Things to Do in Myrtle Beach
Several other websites consider Broadway at the Beach, Barefoot Landing, and The Market Common some of the best free things to do in Myrtle Beach. While these three attractions are well worth a visit and technically “free,” you’ll quickly end up spending money on food, entertainment, or souvenirs. Reminder: all four of these kid-friendly Myrtle Beach activities are entirely free to our guests!
1. The Beach
Ranking the top six free things to do in Myrtle Beach with kids was challenging, but number one was a no-brainer. While many rank Broadway at the Beach as the area’s top attraction, thousands of travelers and locals flock to our pristine shores every day. Sand Dunes Resort rests along the awe-inspiring shores of the Atlantic, so you’ll always be seconds away from a day at the beach when you choose our oceanfront getaway. Build a sandcastle, read a crime novel, fly a kite, and practice yoga – there are only right ways to spend your time on Myrtle Beach.
2. Sands Resorts Waterpark
All of our guests get to enjoy FREE admission to Sands Resorts Waterpark, our on-site, 130,000-gallon wonderland. Float along the lazy river in a cushy tube, brace yourself under the giant water bucket, watch your kids frolic on the aquatic treehouse, and blaze down a waterslide before taking a nap on the beach (which is a brief stroll from the water park).
3. Franklin G. Burroughs & Simeon B. Chapin Art Museum
While the Burroughs & Chapin Art Museum is certainly a mouthful, this Ocean Boulevard attraction remains one of our favorite free things to do in Myrtle Beach (regardless of the price). Browse through an extensive collection of art exhibits ranging from local artists to world-famous figures such as Jean de Brunhoff. Inside the museum, you’ll discover pottery, glassworks, prints, illustrations, photographs, and, of course, paintings.
4. The Myrtle Beach Boardwalk and Promenade
While a stroll along the Myrtle Beach Boardwalk and Promenade may lead to a purchase or two, this beautiful stretch of South Carolina’s coast is well worth a visit. Yes, you’ll pass the SkyWheel, Ripley’s, and countless oceanfront restaurants, but the sprawling, awe-inspiring Atlantic Ocean views are stellar. And a walk along the Promenade is perhaps the best way to get to know the city – and maybe you stumble into a kitschy ice cream shop with the kids to cool your tongues.
Oceanfront Myrtle Beach Family Resorts
Not only do all guests at Sand Dunes Resort gain free admission to our crowd-pleasing on-site water park, but you’ll be seconds away from seemingly endless Myrtle Beach activities, such as sunbathing, swimming, and beachcombing. And don’t forget about our inexpensive yet utterly charming ocean-view suites, on-site dining, and spectacular golf specials. Hopefully, this list of free things to do in Myrtle Beach will help save your family a little money this summer. Top 4 Attractions near Sand Dunes Resort
When you’re not parasailing high above the Atlantic Ocean, sunbathing on the beach, and splashing at Sands Resorts Waterpark, we recommend visiting one of these ultra-popular Myrtle Beach attractions during your unforgettable family getaway to coastal South Carolina.
- Broadway at the Beach – Families from across the globe flock to our beautiful oceanfront resort for many reasons, including our pristine beach, seemingly unlimited watersports, and, of course, our on-site Myrtle Beach water park. But Broadway at the Beach will always be a massive draw for families of all ages. Broadway at the Beach is Myrtle Beach’s entertainment, dining, and shopping hub located just 12 minutes from the best Myrtle Beach hotels. Some of the highlights along Celebrity Circle are WonderWorks, Ripley’s Aquarium, and the Hollywood Wax Museum (located across the highway).
- Myrtle Beach Pelicans – Minor league baseball is equally relaxing, exciting, and occasionally amusing (depending on the night’s promotions). The Myrtle Beach Pelicans are the Chicago Cubs’ Class A affiliate. Current MLB stars Freddie Freeman, Kyle Hendricks, and Elvis Andrus spent time developing their game with the Pelicans. Not only is TicketReturn.com Field a great, old-school place to watch baseball, but the weekly promotions are simply too good to pass up.
- SkyWheel – Myrtle Beach is home to the second tallest Ferris wheel in North America: SkyWheel, a 187-foot tall modern marvel that allows vacationers to obtain a birds-eye view of the Atlantic Ocean, Myrtle Beach, and far beyond. With “flights” starting at just $9, the SkyWheel is a must-visit attraction for families who are planning to enjoy the Myrtle Beach Boardwalk, which is only a short drive from our Myrtle Beach water park resort.
Family Kingdom Amusement Park – Myrtle Beach’s Family Kingdom Amusement Park provides children and adults alike with 19 straight weeks of nostalgia, old-school thrill rides, and carnival games. You’ll discover everything from wooden roller coasters to bumper cars during your exciting and amusing trip to the Family Kingdom. Besides spending time on the beach and in the Atlantic, the Family Kingdom is one of the top three things to do in Myrtle Beach for families with young children!
A Free, On-Site Myrtle Beach Water Park
Sand Dunes Resort remains one of the only Myrtle Beach oceanfront hotels along the Atlantic’s edge that has an on-site water park. Sands Resorts Waterpark, which is free to all guests, features a relaxing lazy river, exhilarating waterslides, a splash-tastic aquatic treehouse, and so much more! Not only are we one of the only water park resorts in coastal South Carolina, but you’ll always be a short stroll from the beach, ocean, and on-site dining! There’s no denying that Myrtle Beach has expanded into one of the premier family getaways on the East Coast thanks to our city’s wide variety of family-friendly activities, attractions, and inexpensive oceanfront accommodations. Myrtle Beach, much like every other famous beachfront city, experiences a standard amount of rainfall throughout the year, intermittently “raining on everyone’s parade.” But don’t let a little rain ruin your well-deserved family vacation to the South Carolina coast! When you’re not sunbathing on the beach, splashing at the Sands Resorts Waterpark, and indulging in delicious local cuisine, we recommend taking a short journey to some of the best Myrtle Beach attractions. All of these top-rated Myrtle Beach attractions make perfect rainy day activities!
4 Top-Rated Indoor Myrtle Beach Attractions
- Family FunZone – There’s no better way to ride out a brief rainstorm than venturing over to the Family FunZone located next door at the newly-renovated North Shore Oceanfront Hotel. The Family FunZone has an extensive collection of classic arcade games, new video games, a swimming pool with a heated whirlpool, and, of course, Neptune Blacklight Mini Indoor Golf. Splash in the pool, play nine holes of black-light mini golf, and enjoy dozens of exciting arcade games while the rainstorm passes.
Ripley’s Aquarium – We highly recommend embarking on the five-mile journey from Sand Dunes Resort to Ripley’s Aquarium this summer, whether it’s raining or not. This kid-friendly aquarium is fun for all ages, but young children in particular always seem to leave electrified and smiling from ear-to-ear. The kids can meet some of the world’s most colorful fish, such as clown triggerfish, blue tang, and foxface rabbitfish. Some of the “scariest” creatures under the sea also reside at this magical aquarium, but don’t fret, because you can actually swim with some of these surprisingly friendly sharks and stingrays!- Hollywood Wax Museum – One of the most popular Myrtle Beach attractions, especially for teenagers, is the Hollywood Wax Museum, which rests just across the highway from Broadway at the Beach. The whole family can pose for photos with jaw-dropping wax versions of your favorite movie stars, musicians, and athletes, including Justin Timberlake, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, and Beyoncé.
- Medieval Times – One of the most exciting, amusing, and family-friendly Myrtle Beach attractions is Medieval Times, a rousing dinner theater originally founded in 1995. Not only will the whole family get to enjoy a four-course meal that’s “fit for royalty,” but you’ll observe some of the best jousting, weaponry, falconry, and horsemanship in the United States.
Myrtle Beach Hotels with Water Parks
Not only is Sand Dunes Resort one of the only water park resorts in Myrtle Beach, but we’re steps from the Atlantic Ocean and several miles of pristine beach access. Spend your days splashing at Sands Resorts Waterpark, visiting the top-rated Myrtle Beach attractions, and trying several fun beach activities, before sitting down for dinner at one of our oceanfront restaurants. You can also relax poolside at Sands Resorts Waterpark while the kids giggle the hours away in the splash zone. And don’t forget to rise with the sun at dawn – the sunrises in Myrtle Beach are genuinely heavenly!
Splash, Swim, and Paddle
While you’ll likely want to spend most of your Memorial Day weekend relaxing on the beach, enjoying delicious local cuisine, and playing games with the kids, you won’t want to return home without several hours spent in the water. The complimentary Sands Resorts Waterpark provides guests of all ages with exciting slides, soothing lazy rivers, and an exhilarating splash zone. The only thing better than spending a week on the beach in Coastal South Carolina is spending a week on the beach AND at an on-site Myrtle Beach water park! Sand Dunes Resort provides families with a genuinely unique vacation experience that you won’t find at many other Myrtle Beach resorts: free water park access, a pristine exclusive beach, and modern yet affordable ocean-view accommodations. Start each morning with a gorgeous Atlantic Ocean sunrise on your private balcony and a steaming cup of fresh-brewed coffee. Spend your afternoons soaking, sunbathing, and splashing at Sands Resorts Waterpark before strolling along our massive exclusive beach at dusk. Keep reading to learn more about our popular Myrtle Beach water park!
Sands Resort Waterpark and Lazy River
Yes, you read that right – Sands Resort Waterpark is entirely free for all of our guests. One of the main features of this Myrtle Beach water park, especially for adults, is the lazy river. Hop aboard a bright yellow tube and let the current slowly guide you along this meandering canal. The kids will love the giant water bucket which dumps hundreds of gallons on those who’re aching to get soaked! The “Splash Zone” also features slippery waterslides, gushing fountains, a water-resistant aquatic treehouse, a bubble pool, and a kiddie-pool playground.
Indoor and Outdoor Pools
Guests who wish to take a short break from our free Myrtle Beach water park can take full advantage of our oceanfront pool and sundeck located on the southwest corner of the resort. Relax in a comfortable chaise lounge, soak in the water, and take laps around the uniquely-shaped pool. And the boardwalk to the beach is conveniently located approximately ten steps from the pool! If the weather isn’t cooperating, we also have a renovated ocean-view pool and two hot tubs inside the resort.
Myrtle Beach Water Park Resorts
Sand Dunes Resort is also minutes away from the area’s most popular attractions, including Broadway at the Beach, Ripley’s Aquarium, and Tanger Outlets. We also offer several Myrtle Beach packages for golfers – simply visit our golf page to browse through these inexpensive specials.
