3 Perfect Days at Sand Dunes: A Family Itinerary

Three days, one parking pass, zero “are we there yet.” Here’s a family itinerary built around a simple idea: when you stay at Sand Dunes Resort, most of the vacation is already downstairs.

Day 1 — Arrive and get wet

4:00 p.m.: Check-in opens. Drop the bags, hand out the swimsuits, and let the crew loose.

Late afternoon: Start at the oceanfront outdoor pool and lazy river. It’s the fastest way to switch the family from “car mode” to “vacation mode.” Parents: sun deck. Kids: everywhere.

Evening: Dinner at one of the onsite restaurants — nobody has to get back in the car on arrival day. End with a first walk on the beach while the sky does its thing.

Day 2 — The big waterpark day

Morning: Waterpark admission comes with your stay whenever it is booked through Sands Resorts, so make Day 2 the full waterpark day. Go early while the splash zone is calm — little kids get the kiddie-pool playground and aquatic treehouse before the crowds wake up.

Midday: Lazy river rotation. One parent floats, one supervises the waterslides, then swap. (The park runs seasonally, weather permitting — confirm hours with reservations when you book.)

Afternoon: Break for ice cream and a room rest. This is the difference between a great waterpark day and a meltdown by 4 p.m.

Evening: Family FunZone night — arcade battles and Neptune Blacklight Mini Golf. Loser of mini golf carries the beach chairs tomorrow.

Day 3 — Beach morning, explore afternoon

Morning: The beach is right out front, so claim your spot early. Castles, boogie boards, that one wave that gets Dad’s phone. The classics.

Afternoon: Use your Free Attraction Tickets (included when you book direct) toward a Myrtle Beach attraction, or take a drive down Ocean Boulevard toward the Boardwalk. Prefer zero driving? The indoor pool and whirlpool are open year-round for one last swim.

Evening: Sunset walk, oceanfront dinner, and the traditional “can we stay one more night?” negotiation.

Make it your version

Swap any block for pool time — no itinerary survives contact with a 6-year-old, and that’s fine. The point of Sand Dunes is that every backup plan is an elevator ride away.
